This story is part of WWDC 2022CNET’s full coverage of and about Apple’s annual developer conference.

Several new features are coming to Apple Maps on your iPhone very soon. Apple is expected to announce the exact date on the Far Out event on Wednesday. Some of the upcoming features include high-resolution graphics for apps like Zillow and new developer tools like making Bird scooters and bikes easier.

Along with these updates, Apple said it will roll out its redesigned card in 11 more countries later this year. Those features include bike directions and Look Around, a new 3D city experience.

The new changes for Apple Maps come with the release of iOS 16, which also: new iPhone Message features that can help prevent unpleasant texting faux pas.

Multi-stop routing comes to iPhone

If you often use Google Maps for features that Apple Maps lacks, that may change. One major update coming to your iPhone is called multi-stop routing. Apple says it is one of the “most requested features”.

With this new feature, you can now schedule up to 15 stops on your iPhone. You can also start planning your trip on your Mac and send it to your iPhone when you’re ready to go. Maps saves your previous routes in Recent so they’re easier to find when planning your commute.

To get started, open the Maps app on your iPhone and type in your first destination. To add more stops, tap Add stop and type in your next destination. For example, you can first type a coffee shop you want to stop and then your work address.

If you’re driving and need to add an extra stop, you can ask Siri to add it to your route. This can help avoid distractions so you can focus on the road.

New transport features are added

If you use public transit to commute to work or grab a bite to eat in the evening, Apple is adding new transit features to make your journey easier. You can see the rates for how much your trip will cost.

You can also add a new transit map from Apple Maps to your Apple Wallet app. If the balance of your public transport card is low, you will receive a notification so that you can top it up without leaving the Maps app. All you have to do is click on the Reload knob.
