Apple has announced the winners of the 2022 App Store Awards, highlighting 16 apps and games, including the photo-sharing app BeReal, which was named iPhone App of the Year.
The winners, chosen by Apple’s global App Store editorial team, are “[inspiring] users to engage more deeply with the world, unleash their imaginations, and stay in touch with friends and loved ones[…]says Apple, all of which “deliver exceptional experiences and have a profound cultural impact.”
BeReal, the photo-sharing app that gives users an authentic glimpse into the lives of their family and friends by asking users to post unfiltered photos of themselves once a day, has been named iPhone App of the Year, winning a physical award designed by Apple, inspired by the signature blue App Store icon.

The award includes the App Store logo in 100 percent recycled aluminum used to make Apple products, with the winner’s name engraved on the other side.
GoodNotes 5, a note-taking app with “best-in-class Apple Pencil support,” has been named iPad App of the Year, and MacFamilyTree 10, a Mac app that offers a wide variety of options for capture and visualize a user’s notes. family history, has been named Mac app of the year.
ViX, a Spanish-language streaming service with more than 20,000 hours of content available to watch on-demand, has been named Apple TV App of the Year, and Gentler Streak, an exercise and fitness tracker for Apple Watch, wins the title from Apple Watch the app of the year.
“This year’s App Store Award winners have reimagined our experiences with apps that offer new, thoughtful and genuine perspectives,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a press release Tuesday. “From self-taught solo creators to global teams around the world, these entrepreneurs are making a meaningful impact and represent the ways apps and games are impacting our communities and lives.”
