Asus announces its Android 13 stable update plans for Zenfone and ROG devices – Transcontinental Times

INDIA: While Asus started its Android 13 beta testing program fairly quickly for some of its newer smartphones, such as the Zenfone 8, the company has yet to specify when its devices would receive the stable version of the update.

Numerous other smartphone manufacturers have already started distributing stable Android 13.

The Zenfone 8 and 9 series, along with the ROG Phone 5, 5S, 6 and 6D series, are finally set for Android 13 stable update release by the Taiwan-based company.

The update will be released in December for the Asus Zenfone 9, followed by the Zenfone 8 series. It will be available for Zenfone 8 series, including Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip, in January next year.

The announcement of Android 13 updates does not imply that the devices will receive the update on the first of the month.

Asus is known to release updates in phases. Aside from the inconsistency in update rollouts, there may be regional differences.

According to the announcement, none of the Asus gaming phones will be getting an upgrade to the stable version of Android 13 this year. It will be available for the ROG Phone 6D and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate from Q1 2023.

The ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro are expected to update to the latest version of Android around the same time, even if they lag behind the 6D series.

The ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro, ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, ROG Phone 5S and ROG Phone 5S Pro are the latest in line and will receive Android 13 from the second quarter of 2023, expected from May.

Since Asus usually only releases two Android system updates for its products, the Zenfone 8, ROG Phone 5 Series and ROG Phone 5S Series will most likely be discontinued when they receive Android 13.

The Zenfone 7 series is a perfect example of the series discontinuation. The Zenfone 7 series launched with Android 10 but is yet to receive the latest Android 13 update. However, security updates will probably continue for a few months for the devices.
