Apple is facing new production delays for its latest iPhone amid a massive Covid-19 outbreak in China, with nearly a fifth of the entire population contracted by the virus.

Analysts have warned that the tech giant faces further supply chain disruption following an outbreak of the virus in “iPhone City”, Foxconn’s massive assembly plant in Zhengzhou.

Covid-19 cases in the world’s second-largest economy have exploded this month after Beijing lifted lockdown restrictions following nationwide protests against strict lockdown rules. Authorities said on Friday that an estimated 250 million people have tested positive for the virus in the past 20 days. China’s National Health Commission has reported no deaths from the virus in the past four days.
