Spotted a problem: The Go Flip V runs on an AOSP-based operating system, not KaiOS. Check the Alcatel and Verizon website.

Guru, 12 hours agoToday there is no third choice. It’s Android or iOS.What about harmony ox?

Tizen might work, but for some reason Samsung never took much risk with both bada and tizen.
They just had to release a flagship with the promise of 6-7 years of update.

Android for phones and Windows for laptops. Nothing else needed.

s

I wish we had privacy in any of these operating systems. Not just from people, but also from companies that built them.

I’m making a prediction: Android, Windows and just about every cancer out there will never be safe, not even in 2040, they’ll get security updates forever. FOREVER.
Now, you’re free to quote me in 2040 and tell me if I’m wrong.

the old forums and maybe downloads should still be active. you could put sailfish, ubuntu touch, android and firefox os on a nexus 5 if you’re feeling crazy. can’t remember how to multiboot though

“This was later (due to a trademark dispute with BIOS maker Phoenix Technologies) changed to Firebird (but that name also clashed with another company).”

Almost, but not quite: That second name conflict was with another open source project/product, not a company. The Firebird SQL database, the open source continuation of a version of Interbase, which Borland (or was it called Inprise at the time?) briefly opened before it later became proprietary again.

HTH!

good article

feel the need to mention that as the next point is they have nitpicking about how android isn’t open…at least not really. and that’s without even getting into the real black boxes that are Android phone modems

KaiOS will also die because not only is the Google service no longer supported, but WhatsApp refuses to release in the latest version of KaiOS 3.xx.

most of the device is stuck at 2.4 or 2.5 or 2.6 and dev refuses to update it to the latest 3.x because there is no incentive for them. the same goes for whatsapp

murutoukon, 10 hours agoit’s kddi, not fddi.Oops, indeed! Thanks for the correction.

Kai is stupid.
The old Nokia S40 or Symbian can run faster than Kai is a phone, even with old hardware.

I’d like to see Android built for small dumb phones so that it can be used as a secondary phone without taking the user completely out of connectivity. Nokia was said to be working on such a phone in the past, but that has never been made public

Ever bought a Kai OS device. It was a laggy mess of a phone. The hardware was old. Nokia 8110 4G was for the most part a disappointment. Battery life was good but again Nokia screwed up with poor specs like they always do

2010 is the year mobile gaming graphics surpass PS2/GC/xbox picture quality.

So many HD high graphics intensive games came in iOS, Android..

Unfortunately, FireOS doesn’t get support from major game developers like Gameloft/EA.

Kai OS seems to struggle on these feature phones, for example Nokia, it runs horribly, so slow and a battery drainer it looks like it has lost some important applications, maybe death is near
