Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series is official with a new version of One UI. The latest Galaxy flagships debut Android 13-based One UI 5.1, a small but meaningful update to One UI 5.0 currently running on most other Galaxy smartphones. It brings several new features and improvements. Here’s a quick overview of the best of One UI 5.1.
One UI 5.1 new features
The Galaxy S23 series received a substantial camera upgrade this year. And the upgrades aren’t limited to hardware and behind-the-scenes processing and algorithms. You’ll also find changes to the stock camera app. Applying color effects to your selfies is now easier than ever. Samsung has also added a shortcut for Expert RAW. You can quickly switch to the professional camera app without leaving the stock camera app.
The Gallery app adds a shared family album that makes sharing photos with your family an effortless task. You can add up to six family members to a shared album, and they each get 5 GB of storage to share photos and videos. You can also now remaster downloaded GIFs for better resolution and clarity. Say goodbye to those grainy and blurry GIFs that take the fun out of it. Samsung’s AR Zone and AR Emoji also receive functional improvements.
If you are one of those who take a lot of screenshots and screenshots for personal or professional use, One UI 5.1 lets you create custom folders for those files. Speaking of professional use, you can now collaborate on Samsung Notes during a video call on Google Meet. One UI 5.1 also brings improved connectivity to the Galaxy ecosystem. You can copy and paste text, images and more to your connected Galaxy smartphones and laptops.
Bixby Text Call, which lets you transcribe audio calls to text, should be available in English with One UI 5.1. Samsung’s Modes and Routines have also become smarter. You can now automate more tasks than before. The new One UI version also allows you to set multiple custom wallpapers that automatically change based on your activity. Last but not least, One UI 5.1 brings improvements to Samsung DeX, home screen widgets, setup wizard, settings and more.
Samsung will update older Galaxy devices to the new One UI version
One UI 5.1 won’t be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 series for long. Samsung will update older Galaxy flagships to the new One UI version in the coming weeks. All flagship models launched since the Galaxy S20 series in 2020 will receive the update, although some features may not be available on certain models. Some mid-range Galaxy A phones may also get some One UI 5.1 features. We’ll let you know when the company begins the rollout.
