It’s important to note that Google’s latest 2022 showcase of its flagship products is trying to hold back that outgoing power. A common complaint among Android users is that many Android phones contain a lot of bloatware, and Google is trying to solve that with its Pixel phones, as they contain a leaner and purer version of Android that is faster than it otherwise would have been. .
The latest iteration of the Pixel phone, dubbed the Pixel 7, is just one of several products Google showcased at its Made by Google event in 2022. Pixel has been an important part of Google’s efforts to further develop their Android operating system. and 11% of users who switched to a Pixel phone did so from an iPhone. However, 23% of users who switched from the Pixel phone ended up switching to Apple’s iPhone, so the Pixel phone loses more users to Apple than it gets from that company.
Google also relies on its mid-range model, the Pixel Xa, to target smaller markets. Pixel phone sales are largely saturated in the US, with very limited exposure to other countries. The Xa may be able to help with that, though it will compete with better-established Chinese smartphone makers that already have an edge. It will be interesting to see where it goes as Google clearly puts more emphasis on hardware.
