Honor has just introduced a new duo of smartphones in China. For the popular low-end series we have the budget Honor Play 6C. The big star, however, is the Honor X40 GT. The device has been the target of leaks and teasers in recent weeks. And yes, it’s another GT smartphone with a focus on gaming. Can it withstand a crowded market? We’re pretty sure it’s a capable offering thanks to a flagship SoC.
Honor X40 GT
The Honor X40 GT has a big triumph card. It contains the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Last year’s flagship SoC is still a very capable chipset and it’s better than anything Qualcomm has in the mid-range. The SoC comes with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. To ensure the performance, Honor equips it with an 8-layer graphite cooling pad. It can lower the temperature by 1 degree Celsius. As a result, users will not suffer from throttling during gaming sessions.
The Honor X40 GT also brings a huge 6.81-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and a whopping 144Hz refresh rate. It’s worth noting that it’s an LCD display, but the company definitely needs to take a few turns to offer this level of specs. The panel has a perforated hole in the center and supports a touch frequency of 480 Hz.
In terms of optics, the phone has a 50MP main camera with a 2MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth of field module. Of course, photography is not central here. However, the main camera allows you to take decent photos. For selfies, there is a 16 MP snapper.
Furthermore, the Honor X40 GT also brings a capable battery of 4,800 mAh with fast charging of 66 W. In addition, the phone runs on Magic UI 6.1 in terms of software. It has Android 12 as its underlying version.
Gizchina News of the Week
The device comes in black, silver and a nice Racing Black livery. Pricing starts at CNY 2,099 ($290) for the variant with 8 GB of RAM. The highest model with 12 GB of RAM costs CNY 2,399 ($332). That’s a good price for the specs. The open sale starts on October 18. For now, there’s no word on global availability.
Honor Play 6C
This is a budget-oriented device and joins the Honor X40 GT release. It has a 6.5-inch LCD display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The resolution is unfortunately just HD+. It has a waterdrop notch with a modest 5MP selfie shooter. Under the hood it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ which offers just enough performance and 5G. The phone comes with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
The Honor Play 6C has a modest dual-camera setup. That’s why it has a 13 MP primary camera. There is also a 2 MP depth sensor with an LED flash. In terms of software, it runs Android 12 with Magic UI 5.0. The battery of the phone is a 5000 mAh cell. It gets its energy from a fast-charging 22.5 W. The device has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Last but not least, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
