Tata Group is about to take over a major factory in South India in a deal that would give the country its first homegrown iPhone maker.
The conglomerate from airline to software has been in conversation with the factory owner, Taiwan Wistron Corp., for months, and wants to complete the purchase by the end of March, according to two people familiar with the process.
