There are nine in total.

Fortunately, you can disable most of them if you want.

So, what features can be used when your iPhone is locked?

View and search today

The Today View is the screen that appears when you swipe from left to right on the lock screen.

It shows things like calendar, weather, selected photos and news.

Notification Center

All the notifications you have received will be displayed on the lock screen that appears when you slide down from the center of your screen.

While they give away app details, the content of the notification is kept secret.

Control Center

The control center houses everything from WiFi and Bluetooth controls to the media player.

So people can disable your connection or make music from here if they want to.

Lock screen widgets

The lock screen widgets are brand new for iPhone in iOS 16.

You have to install and select them yourself before they appear, like WhatsApp and Gmail.

Digital voice assistant Siri will still answer you even if the iPhone is locked.

However, it won’t do much until you unlock the device.

Home control

If you have smart home products, you can access the controls on the lock screen.

So that someone can interfere with your lights and other connected things.

You can also view bank cards stored in your iPhone wallet from the lock screen, although it never reveals sensitive details anyway.

In addition, this is disabled by default.

Return missed calls

Missed calls are displayed on the lock screen.

Allows you to call the person back.

You can press and hold the camera icon on the lock screen and the app will open.

This will allow anyone to take pictures, but they won’t be able to go in and see this one or others you’ve taken.

How do I change what’s on my iPhone’s lock screen

To change what appears on your iPhone lock screen, first open Settings.

Find Face ID & Passcode – you will need to enter your passcode to continue.

Then scroll down to the bit titled “Allow access when locked”.

You can check and uncheck as you wish.
